Inter Miami is hoping that July 21 will be the date of the debut match for Lionel Messi.

The sports director, Chris Henderson, has said that they are working on the documents of Messi and the new coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino. Martino was introduced by the team on Wednesday, but cannot start the coaching job until his visa process is completed. Messi is expected to sign with the team at the beginning of July and there are plans for his introduction on July 16.

“As for Leo, the agreement has been reached, but we are working on the documents with ‘Major League Soccer’, so it will take time to complete them,” said Henderson. “But we hope that a little later than the middle of July he will be ready. This will be done after the completion of the documents”.

Some tickets for the July 21 League Cup match against Cruz Azul are on the illegal market for more than $10. Obviously, the award is about Messi’s debut. Messi announced earlier this month that he will join the MLS league.

The seven-time Golden Ball winner decided to move to the MLS league after two years at Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi, who just turned 36, won the World Cup with Argentina in December.

He is expected to make $50 million to $60 million a year with Inter Miami, the club confirmed last week.

Messi was in Argentina recently where he played some friendly matches. He also played the game in honor of his former teammates in Argentina, Juan Riquelme in Buenos Aires and Maxi Rodriguez in the city where he was born, Rosario. Now it is expected to reach south Florida.

Inter Miami has five wins and 13 losses in 18 matches. It is the weakest team in the Eastern Conference. Henderson hopes that the transfer of Messi, Martino and several other players will represent the “new era of the club”.

“The goal is to reach the playoffs this year,” Henderson said.
